What can change the price
Floor prep. The prices above assume a sound, level subfloor. Grinding a high spot, extra self-levelling compound, or backer board over a timber subfloor is quoted separately. A floor that is already level is the single biggest saving on the job.
Floor height. The cable and the screed over it add 4–6mm max, so door clearances and floor transitions rarely need altering. If your build has no height to spare at all, say so at quote time.
The electrical connection. If your own electrician makes the final connection, that comes off the price. A new dedicated circuit, if the board needs one, adds to it.
More than one room. Rooms done in the same visit share the one trip, so a bathroom and a kitchen together cost far less than two separate jobs.
Thermostat choice. A standard programmable thermostat is included. A premium Wi-Fi model costs more.

About 27 cents an hour for a 4m² bathroom — roughly $16–$26 a month if you run it 2–3 hours a day on a timer. That is 170W/m² (0.68kW for 4m²) at the 39.3c/kWh national average power price. Real-world cost is usually lower, because the floor sensor cuts the cable once the floor is up to temperature and only cycles it to hold it there. The cost only gets high if you leave it on 24/7 instead of on a schedule.
Why a renovation is the cheapest time to do it
The cable sits under the tile, so the floor covering has to come up either way. If the floor is already coming up for a re-tile or a bathroom renovation, you are only paying for the heating — not for lifting the floor twice. The right moment to call is after the old floor is out and before the tiler starts.
